Resicare Society of Calgary consists of a team of professionals who are dedicated
and committed to providing comprehensively integrated and high-quality support
services to disabled individuals.
Supportive Roommates provide high quality services and supports to client(s)
consistent with the mission and vision of Resicare Society of Calgary. Primary work is
conducted out of own residence with the emphasis on residential and community based
activities.
We are seeking an experienced Supportive Roommate in NE Calgary to support our
young male individual with developmental disabilities. He uses a walker and would
prefer less stairs. We would like a couple (not opposed to a single as long as they have
the time capacity to provide the care needed). Children are welcome as long as the
parents have capacity for client’s care. Client will do better having a bedroom of his
own. Clear English speaking ability. Ability to pack quality lunches and provide
nutritional food. Same interest in the things that interest client – music, hockey etc.
Availability in the evenings/weekend to engage and interact with client. Client does not
need to be entertained, just engaged. Open to and respectful of Christian values.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Diploma or equivalent formal education in Rehabilitation Services, Social Sciences or
related discipline. A valid First Aid/CPR and medication administration certification are
required. A recent police clearance check is REQUIRED upon interview. Must have a
valid class 5 driver’s license with a $2 million liability and car must be able to
accommodate a client. Home insurance liability should be $2 million as well.
· Qualifications and experience that position the person to provide a broad range of
general and often specialized services to individuals with disabilities.
· Demonstrate oral and written skills to meet planning and reporting requirements.
· Must have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
· Maintain agency mandatory training requirements and obtain specialized training as
required.
· An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assisting and supporting individual in the establishment and maintenance of shared,
respectful relationships within the community, with a view to meaningful participation
and inclusion.
· Being aware of the individual’s physical, social and recreational environment and
taking action to minimize risks and maximize participation/ inclusion.
· Being aware of and adhering to established policies, practices and operational
protocols.
· Assisting individuals to develop personal home living skills.
· Assisting, supporting and encouraging individuals to achieve their personal goals
through the development of basic living and related skills.
· Assisting with the direct care, as required.
· Assisting and supporting individuals through advocacy.
· Ongoing monitoring and evaluating of client satisfaction.
· Maintaining clear and objective records and preparing required reports, and other
documentation.
· Communicate in a professional, timely, accurate and respectful manner with
individuals, families, guardians, staff and community representatives.
· Adhering to general professional ethics and confidentiality.
· Demonstrate professional documentation skills
